You don’t need a
physical impairment.

Mental-function impairments are a recognised DTC eligibility category. ADHD alone can be relevant when its everyday effects meet the criteria.

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL IMPAIRMENTS BOTH COUNT

Invisible doesn’t mean ineligible.

ADHD, autism, depression, anxiety and other conditions may affect mental functions used in everyday life. Having one of these conditions can be a reason to explore a review; it is not an automatic approval.

Attention & memory

Understanding information and remembering important instructions.

Everyday decisions

Judgment, problem-solving and setting everyday goals.

Daily independence

Adaptive functioning and regulating behaviour or emotions.

What does the CRA look for?

  • Unable to perform everyday mental functions, or taking three times longer than a similar-aged person without the impairment, even with appropriate treatment and supports.
  • Restrictions present all or almost all of the time — generally 90% or more.
  • Restrictions lasting, or expected to last, at least 12 continuous months.

A medical doctor, nurse practitioner or psychologist certifies the relevant effects. CRA makes the eligibility decision.
