Mental-function impairments can qualify for the DTC, just as physical impairments can. You do not need a physical impairment.
ADHD, autism and mental health conditions may qualify when their effects meet the CRA’s criteria. A diagnosis alone does not establish eligibility.

How sponsorship worksThe Disability Tax Credit (DTC) is a tax credit from the CRA. It can lower the income tax of a person with a disability — or, in some cases, a family member who supports them.

No. For the Disability Tax Credit, the CRA looks at the impact on everyday functions, the severity and duration of restrictions, and certification by an appropriate medical practitioner. A diagnosis alone does not establish eligibility.
Employment alone does not determine Disability Tax Credit eligibility. The review centres on qualifying restrictions in everyday activities. Your tax circumstances affect the amount of tax relief you can use.
The Disability Tax Credit is non-refundable. An eligible supporting family member may be able to use an unused portion, subject to the CRA’s rules. Ask our team to review the support arrangement and tax circumstances.
A previous denial can be reviewed. Our team can discuss the decision and whether additional information or a further review may be appropriate. A new approval is not guaranteed.
